Hosting A Baby Shower Checklist
8-12 weeks ahead
- Offer to give the mother-to-be a shower, and ask her for a date/time (*showers are typically in the third trimester)
- Ask the mother-to-be for her guest list.
- Choose a shower theme (gender based, animals, etc.)
- Choose a shower location (your home, restaurant, country club, etc.). If the shower will be held somewhere other than your home, call and secure the venue
- Order invitations (be sure to include the Who, What, When, Where, RSVP, and registry details on the invitation)
4-6 weeks ahead
- Mail invitations
- Plan the menu and if using a caterer, contact them to discuss the details (I highly recommend using a caterer for showers)
- Plan the décor, including tablescape and florals (if using a florist, contact them to discuss the arrangements, and if using a venue other than your home, work with your contact to plan a beautiful room for the shower)
- Order any custom items (i.e., monogrammed cocktail napkins or cups, banner, etc.)
- Coordinate any party rentals (tables, chairs, etc.)
- Order florals if using a florist
2 weeks ahead
- Follow up for RSVPs and confirm headcount
- Purchase party favors
- Purchase gift for the mother-to-be
- Choose your shower outfit
1 week ahead
- If using a caterer, confirm headcount
- Create “Wishes for Baby” cards or other fun activities for guests
1-2 days ahead
- If hosting at your home, prepare for the shower, such as setting the table, designating a place to open gifts, etc.
- If hosting at an outside venue, visit the venue the day before to ensure the set up is as previously planned
- Arrange the florals or pick them up from the florist
- Assemble party favors
Day of
- Be an attentive and hospital hostess
- Take notes when the mother-to-be opens presents so she can write her thank you notes
